Politics of Space

This section is dedicated to the discussion of space advocacy politics.  Our major funding does come from government sources.   The questions, “is this the right funding, what is too little, what is too much”, or “can NASA or other organizations thrive on the budgets they have now”?.   Feel free to jump and express your thoughts and feelings.  Because this topic can get very heated, we ask that you please refrain from vulgarly language since this is a rated-G site :-) .

Thanks – Cheers!

Although I’m convinced that space exploration and colonization is one of the most important investiments a society can make, I’m starting to get largely disenchanted with state-sponsored space programs.

They generaly have to beg for minimal funding from politicians with no vision who don’t care at all, and squander what little they get attending to the demands of lobbyists who care even less about space exploration. With no money and no focus, they hardly get anything done.

Maybe private space exploration is the answer. In the end, sustained space exploration/colonization will only be guaranteed when they can be done at a profit. At least, then, there won’t be people asking “why bother”, HuH?

Right now, there’s an infant private space industry (Scaled Composites, SpaceX, etc) that might yet grow to a huge market. Could they be the ones who will open the lanes to other planets to us, Earthlings?
